Hi, my name is Ivo Popov and I am a Bulgarian full-time artist.
I was born in Sofia in 1995 and I am a third-generation artist. My father is well known with his art teaching career and my mother is a freelance artist since 2001.
I’ve always been a creative kid and luckily was given the freedom to express my artistic side, because of the support from my parents and their friends. Lego was the toy that helped me develop my imagination and attention to detail from an early age.
At the age of 14 I entered Applied Arts High School in Sofia and graduated as a qualified Graphic Designer. At age 19 I got accepted in the University of Architecture (UACEG) but realized I was not passionate enough to become an architect. Instead, I distracted myself with a lot of traveling to other countries, meeting new people, adventures, parties, and fun. But unfortunately, I drifted away from having healthy life goals, and that led to depression.
In the end of 2018, I made an artwork of something that made me happy - my old Suzuki Samurai. After that, I posted it on a Facebook group and people appreciated it. Not long after I had my first commission work and that was how I was presented with the opportunity to become a full-time artist. I took this responsibility seriously and dropped all the bad habits that were holding me back.
My favorite media is polychrome color pencils, and recently I started practicing more with acrylics.
I am glad to say that my artwork brings joy to homes on three continents. People have my art in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Belgium, UK, Croatia, Singapore, and many states in North America.
Praise the Lord! 🙏
